    Mahesh Shantaram – Addis Ababa

„Much of my work is personal, experiential, and purely subjective. There is no urgent story that needs telling and the only truth in it is what I make up along the way. My trip to Addis Ababa was motivated by a simple desire to go some place about which I had very little knowledge and start the process of discovery from virtually zero. This series is the result of a quest for the colour of Africa.“

    1. Regarding the project Grassland. What interested you about this area and what topographic and geographic characteristics were useful for exploring  your interpretations of Landscape?

«My introduction to the site was a gradual one. Over the years, I would bicycle by the entrance, which was gated and clearly off limits. By the time it became a wildlife preserve and opened to the public, I was very curious. Entering the Grasslands for the first time was very much like entering a land that had once been forbidden. That the main part of the site is hidden from the outside, really reinforced my desire to see it as a separate land, defined by its borders, topography, and patterns of usage. (mehr …)

  • Actual colors may vary’s „Best of 2011“ Post-Dubstep | Skweee | Electronic Pop

Even though we’re aware most people are following „Actual colors may vary“ because of our photography features, we would like to share some of our favorite music in 2011 (although some tracks are from late 2010 and early 2012).

We would like to introduce you to a wide spectrum of electronic music that could be filed mostly under „Dubstep“ even though this categorisation would be too general and ignore the fact that this postmodern genre mixes so many influences apart from Dub und 2-Step that it would better be called „Post-Dubstep“ and even that would be misleading. Listen to young producers from Norway, Finland, USA, Belgium, Russia, Japan, Romania, UK, Brasil, Lithuania and Germany experimenting with new sound aesthetics that could be blueprints for future pop music.

In case you’re interested please follow Oliver’s and ACMV’s profile on Soundcloud and listen to even more of our favorites.

If you are annoyed that you have to start each track manually you can listen to an automatically playing list here.

Incredible rough „Beat“ track from 1966 by „The Sorrows“. Is it me or does this track remind you of Joy Division too?

My self-portraits evoke a feeling of youthful intuition. The scenes reflect the tension between my desire to undertake adult responsibilities and my urge to escape back into my old childhood bedroom. When I am behind instead of in front of the camera, I search with childlike curiosity for small details and objects in the world that are playful yet strange, and that feel removed from their surroundings.
