The Portfolio Review is an annual public event where fifteen emerging photographers present their work to an international panel of renowned professionals of the photographic industry. It will take place for its third time on 31 January 2015 at the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf , the hot spot of the Düsseldorf Photo Weekend 2015 (29.01. – 01.02.2015).
During the presentations the images will be screened with a projector and each artist has 20 minutes time to show his/her work and to receive feedback from the jurors. The Portfolio Review is open to the public of the Photo Weekend. At the end of the day, after the presentations, the visitors and the jurors vote for the best portfolios and the winners receive their awards.
The Portfolio Review is aimed at emerging artists from all over the world who want to gain exposure by presenting their work to curators, editors and publishers. In the last two editions photographers from more than 50 countries applied to participate in the Portfolio Review which until now has hosted artists from Germany, Greece, Switzerland, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Czech Republic, Russia, Japan, Israel and the United States.

Jury

Gregory Barker
HOTSHOE Magazine
Gregory Barker is a London based editor and consultant. He is the co-founder of STANLEY/BARKER, an independent publishing company that produces highly individual photobooks, and the Commissioning Editor at HOTSHOE – the UK’s leading contemporary photographic magazine. Gregory Barker is interested in all genres of photography, as long as it aims for some form or originality and authenticity.

Hester Keijser
Curator
Hester Keijser is a freelance curator and author specialized in contemporary photography with a focus on the Middle East. She frequently collaborates with other international organisations in the field of photography on exhibitions, presentations, lectures, workshops and portfolio reviews, and serves as jury member for various awards and festivals.

Kris Scholz
Artist
Kris Scholz studied from 1984 until 1990 at the Art Academy Düsseldorf with Bernd and Hilla Becher. Since 2005 he is professor for photography at the Hochschule Darmstadt. He co-founded the Darmstadt Days of Photography and is a steady member of the jury of the Merck Prize. His works have been exhibiteted widely and published extensively. Kris Scholz lives and works in Düsseldorf.

Alexa Becker
Kehrer Verlag
Alexa Becker is the acquisitions editor for photography and art books for Kehrer Verlag, Heidelberg (Germany). Having obtained her Master’s in Art History from the University of Heidelberg, she started her career at Kehrer in 2003, where she is responsible for selecting and acquiring new photography-related projects. She also initiated the »Trouvés« series at Kehrer Verlag which features handmade photobooks and -objects.

Ingo Taubhorn
House of Photography (Deichtorhallen Hamburg)
Since 1988 Ingo Taubhorn has worked as a freelance curator for art institutions such as the Museum Folkwang in Essen, the Pat Hearn Gallery in New York and the Neue Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst (NGBK) in Berlin. Since 2006, he has been chief curator at the House of Photography in Hamburg. He is president of the Deutsche Fotografische Akademie (DFA) and teaches photography and visual media at the University of Applied Sciences in Bielefeld.

Sheyi Bankale
Next Level Magazine
Sheyi Bankale is Curator of Next Level Projects and Editor of Next Level magazine. He acts as panelist, judge and nominator for The Art Foundation, Google Photography Prize, CONTACT Photography Festival BMW Prize, The Prix Pictet and Next Level Awards. He is a leading expert on photography at major international portfolio reviews, and facilitates the acquisition of photo art works with international museums, art collectors and private clients. He is renowned for his curatorial work in recent years at Next Level Projects as well as Guest Curator for Saatchi Art’s Special Guest Curator Programme and the 2015 Curator for the prestigious Photo 50 exhibition at the London Art Fair.
